Once upon a time there was a place, that existed in the real world in many forms and in the world of the imagination. That place was named Prudha’s Ridge and I would like to share with you some of the inspirations that have built that mighty crumbling wreck of a castle – family home of my Feudal Knight Lady Judith Tirel, the Maid of Prudha’s Ridge.
This post is a little outside my usual posts of directly LARP related topics, mission write ups or the jumbled heap of sewing that I pull together at the end of the project. However, today I would like to share a few of the films / tv shows that get me in the mood to LARP at the moment. I hope you all enjoy a glimpse into my collection.
Sometimes I am asked what it is about LARP that I enjoy – which is usually followed by an outpouring rush about costumes and kit and the society and the stories. But it’s the stories, usually embellished with a few tales of past characters or a particular event that stands out in memory. Rather than a simple “he said, she said” retelling, the tale becomes more like a blog write up and I get a thrill from the reaction of some of our newer players when I tell them of things other characters have done. But this has got me thinking – what is it about LARP that I enjoy? The role-play or the rewards? In this blog I hope to try and summarise my answer to that question.
Earlier this year I wrote a little of Judith’s inspiration soup and showed the kit I had quickly pulled together. Months have passed and I have had a chance to develop the kit further; and I would like to share some of her garb with you, as she progresses from adventuring Esquire through to Lady Knight.
Summer time is upon us and whilst glorious blue skies and warm sunny days can lead to long days LARPing in the woods, lighter kit and sitting round the camp fire with friends at fests. Fest season is in full swing, and last year I offered my thoughts on preparing for summer LARPing. It can never hurt for a reminder, particularly given that (if we’re lucky) you’ll all be outside during hot summer days enjoying yourselves.
