There is a Castle #22 – Kyodania

There is a castle so huge no one has walked from one side to the other and returned to tell the tale. It houses forests, mountains and seas, rooms within rooms, and cities and civilisation that has never gone beyond the four walls of their room. Beyond the villages, towns and cities there are the vast wildernesses of the Roomlands where dwell many dangers, including the walking towers known as the Rooks that are mysterious and strange. And beyond that the Empire of Kyodania with its own breed of Rooks and other monsters.

Welcome to the world of Colostle.

Malek’s Journal Entry #16:

Dear journal,

Today we found the City of Pyrrah nestled at the foot of a great Waterfall and we took the opportunity to do some shopping. Akemi rode Pod most of the day as I felt I needed to talk to Pod about what I’d seen before assuming I could spend the day in the saddle, and honestly it was refreshing to listen to Akemi’s stories again. She’s much happier when not plodding along, and she was full of tales and legends today. I think she’s glad Rikona’s gone too, but we’ve not said as much. The bonus treats in breakfast tell me so though.

She knew that there was a great city amongst the Fangs of Fire, but because we weren’t sure where we came in she was all muddled up. However around midafternoon we started seeing signs of civilisation and lo and behold, over the shoulder of a ridge, there came a great waterway and the city. Akemi was very excited and she and Pod went haring off without me (rude) so I got to take in the scenery before following after them. We found the marketplace and refreshed our travelling rations, before I sought out the merchant quarter to restock healing supplies and potions. It feels good to be back to full strength, as our last skirmish with Imperial Forces had left me somewhat winded.

At Pod’s suggestion we sought the weaponsmith we were told about and she was more than happy to look over mine and Pod’s gear. After some serious haggling I convinced her to work on Pod’s halberd and she told us to come back by the evening. Cue further shopping and Akemi led us to a fascinating shop which specialised in Rookstones. Given the interest the Imperials have in Rookstones I’m surprised such a place exists in a city, but the shopkeeper said that they wouldn’t dare attack Pyrrah with it’s hidden defences. Pod showed interest in a small plant stone, and Akemi and I bargained with the dealer to have it installed since Pod refused to request such a service. Already small tendrils of plant have wound around Pod’s legs and up into the saddle, and Pod seems quite taken with the new adornment. Akemi wears the first bloom in her hair like a trophy and honestly I think this suits Pod. I wonder what the stone can do.

After retrieving Pod’s halberd and feeling reasonably spry, we decided not to find an inn for the night as the prices were extortionate. Exploring the road down the valley we discovered another Crackway (ugh) which is somewhat unstable, but so far we’ve not encountered anything too alarming. I’ve pocketed one of the crystals from the wall at our camp, but I feel better in a contained space for the night rather than sleeping out in the open or trapped in an inn.

Goodnight journal. Goodnight Pod. Goodnight Akemi.

P.S. Pod glows in the dark thanks to the plants. We never have to worry about sleeping in the dark again!
