Last week we talked about Trajan and Alecto. This week we look at more of the Dragon Riders.

Elrik De La Mer, sword hand of the King.

  Name: Elrik De La Mer

Dreamcast actor/actress: Garrett Hedlund

(Murtagh, Eragorn)

Age: 28

Race: Lowlander / Rheganese

Defining Features: Blonde (please, work with me here!), blue/grey eyes, almost permenant frown of dissaproval. Scars on his forearms from an accident in his youth.

House (if placed): Dragon Riders

About:

Erik is the youngest son of the Lord Archmagus Kormark and younger brother to Gretham. He has been given the rank and title of Kormark’s second wife, the Lady Baroness De La Mer, a Miramese noblewoman Kormark married when Elrik was small. He has a younger sister who lives with her mother on the family country estate and will inherit the barony of De La Mer if his sister is unmarried on their mother’s death. He is the bonded Rider of Golden Morrow, one of the Elder dragons and is Prince Malek’s protector twin – both a blessing and a curse.

Where did he come from:

Elrik was around during the rebirth of Gretham’s character as a nobleman. He was a trouble maker, a rogue Rider and generally trouble, however his tie to Malek and some plot line was established. And no, I will not detail this plot line to you. He has now become a sober young man, bonded early to one of the ancient children of Lorik and has grown up with the knowledge of ages. The idea of his being protecto twin to the young Prince of Rhegan came about following the introduction of the role in a comic I read, which I played with until Elrik’s duty was born. From this, the current Elrik was born and the story for Sons of Lur with it.

Why the Dreamcast?:

I needed a blonde actor and Garrett Hedlund seemed a good choice after watching Eragorn. Tortured soul anyone?

Golden Morrow, Dragon to Kings .

  Name: Morrow

Dreamcast actor/actress: Laura Bertram

(Trance Gemini, Andromeda)

Age: Unknown

Race: Dragon

Defining Features: As a dragon she is a great European type with golden scales and large amber eyes. She is fierce and imposing. As a human she is still fierce, but it is tempered with rare beauty. Typically with a golden glow and with copper gold hair, she is the queen amongst her siblings.

House (if placed): Dragon Riders

About:

Morrow, or Golden Morrow as she has become known, is a Royal Dragon, shown in stories and tales as a King maker. She is the second oldest of Lorik’s seven children and has had the most riders during her time, usually taken from kings or princes. She takes human form more often than her kin, having lived for the early part of Elrik’s life as a human in the Rheganese court. She has been lover of Kalen and Lore in their lifetimes.

Where did she come from:

Morrow has always been female. And I knew I always wanted an important female dragon, either as guardian at the end or as a character throughout. She came to her current form through the introduction of Elrik where she appeared as a golden woman with a voice like bells, but she was not introduced as the golden dragon until the redraft.

Why the Dreamcast?:

Trance’s golden form definately played a part in the creation of Morrow and she could play a stern warrior as well as the sweet natured charater we liked.

Lorik, the one as old as time.

  Name: Lorik

Dreamcast actor/actress: Jeremy Irons

(Tiberius, Kingdom of Heaven)

Age: Unknown

Race: Dragon

Defining Features: Lorik is rarely in dragon form, but he is an imposing golden green beast. As a human, he is a hale and hearty older man, with piercing eyes and greying hair and beard.

House (if placed): Dragon Riders

About:

Lorik is the father of the Elder Dragons through many mates, said to have been formed before the Goddess and her consort and acted and Guardian and Guide through their forming. He makes up, for some, the final piece of the magical parthanon, created by a higher power. He served in the Long Night as mount of Lur and was present at the breaking of Mar’s power and the loss of the Sword of Lur and Mar’s stone. Much is said about his past, but nowadays he is a good friend to Kormark and serves as a magical historian for the court. The people at court who are unaware of his true nature assume his parents had a cruel sense of humour to name their son after a mighty dragon. If only they knew …

Where did he come from:

Lorik has taken many forms – as a Ranger Captain with a draconian side, as a Master Magus, as a riderless dragon and as the voice of reason behind the quest. He has become another player in the game of power, acting behind the scenes to guide the heroes through the story and generally being the gruff old man who believes all is lost.

Why the Dreamcast?:

Jeremy Irons, particulary as Tiberius in Kingdom of Heaven and as Brom in Eragorn, suits the role of guardian and teacher and the general older man who hasn’t the time or patience to put up with the young idiots he has to deal with.
